Summary: After much time in the torture room, Winston is moved to a better room and he receives less torture. He is able to gain weight and earns a small writing tablet. He realizes that opposing was a stupid idea and he writes the parties slogan on his board. One day, after bottling all his anger, he screams JULIA many times over and over. He does this even though it will cause him much pain. He tells O'Brien that he hates big brother. He will obey him but hate him. O'Brien tells him that is not enough and sends him to the dreaded room 101.
In room 101 Winston is strapped to a chair and made so he can not move. O'Brien holds a cage of hungry rats up to Winstons face and tells him he will let them loose if he does not agree to betray Julia. Winston then cracks and says he would rather have her be punished instead of them. When he says this the rats are taken away.
Winston is freed from the Ministry of Love and finds himself at a small cafe. He accepts what Big Brother teaches and is now sick when he sees Julia. He remembers his memories shared with his mother. He sees a picture of Big Brother on a telescreen and realizes the love he has for him.
Connection: This ending is hard to make a connection to. Everything turns out ok and he seems to have gotten over his problems. This is similar to the Holocaust, but the Jews were not ok.
